A Head of AI for a few days a month, who also builds.

Senior, part-time AI leadership for small and mid-sized companies across Europe: priorities, tool and supplier choices, delivery, governance and training, plus the hands-on builds. One person accountable.

A fractional Head of AI is a senior person who owns AI for your company for a set number of days a month, without a full-time hire. I set priorities with you, choose tools and suppliers, run delivery one project at a time, put practical governance in place and train your team to run what we build. Unlike most fractional AI leads, I also build: both of my case studies were built by me directing AI. It's a monthly retainer sized to the days you need, agreed in writing.

What a fractional Head of AI is

A fractional Head of AI owns AI for your company part time. Some call it a fractional Chief AI Officer (CAIO) or a fractional AI officer. It's fractional AI leadership: the same responsibility as a full-time Head of AI, for the days you actually need.

It suits companies that need someone to own AI, but don't need a full-time executive.

Meanwhile, at large companies: 76% of organisations in IBM's CEO study now have a Chief AI Officer, up from 26% a year earlier (IBM Institute for Business Value, CEO Study, May 2026). You don't need a full-time one.

What I take responsibility for

Priorities.

I pick the AI projects worth doing and agree with you how to measure them.

Tools and suppliers.

Decisions are made with you and chosen for the task. Where I can, I avoid tying you to a single platform, and you own what's built for your business. The AI providers I work with are OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude) and xAI (Grok).

Delivery.

Projects are delivered one at a time, each with an owner. I build working tools and integrations around your team's real work, directing AI to do the technical build. Connecting your systems

Safety and governance.

I put human review, clear permissions and a named owner into every workflow, with practical rules for tool use, data and approvals.

Your team.

I train the team, track the results and agree who maintains what we build. The goal is that your people can run it without me.

  1. Find it
  2. Quick win
  3. One workflow, end to end
  4. Connected systems
  5. Custom AI tool or agent
  6. Platform or product build
  7. Run and improve

A month, in practice

A typical month might include (illustrative):

  • a monthly review of priorities with you
  • the current build moving forward
  • answers to tool and supplier questions
  • training sessions for the people using the tools
  • a short written update on what's in use, what changed and what's next

I work for a set number of days a month, agreed for the engagement. Builds are delivered one at a time, and larger ones are quoted in writing as fixed-fee phases. The work is mostly remote, from Tallinn, and on-site visits are agreed in the proposal.

The first 90 days

  • Month 1. We find the opportunities and agree priorities and how to measure them. This is the opportunity review.
  • Months 1–2. The first project goes into daily use.
  • Month 3. A written review of what's working, and an AI roadmap for the next quarter.

Timing depends on the task, and we agree it in writing.

Start with an opportunity review or a first project

Leading and building: why one person

Many part-time AI leads advise and then hand the build to a supplier. That hand-off is often where projects stall.

I lead and I build. You deal with me from the first call to your team using it every day, with no junior team and no hand-off.

I've spent 27 years on the business side of technology:

  1. 1999–2001
Director of IT, Warner Music GroupLos Angeles
  2. 2003–2004
    IT senior consultant, NBC OlympicsAthens
  3. 2004–2009
    Founder, FXGreece currency brokerage
  4. 2017–2018
    Group CMO, ICE Technology Services
  5. 2021–now
    Head of AI, Healthview AI
  6. 2024–now
    Founder, Arvanu

I know who has to say yes. I know what a board wants to see, what a department head is measured on, and what makes a team actually adopt a new tool.

Governance, kept practical

Governance here means practical rules. Who may use which AI tools, and for what. What data the AI may see. Where a person decides. And AI literacy training for the people using it.

We agree up front what data the work needs, what the AI may see and do, and where a person must decide. Legal, security and sector-specific decisions stay with the right people in your business.

Fractional, consultant, agency or full-time?

Each of these is the right choice for some companies. If one clear task is all you need, a single project is the better fit, and I'll tell you that.

How it starts

Step 1

A 15-minute call (free).

You tell me what's on your plate with AI. We work out whether a fractional Head of AI makes sense, or whether a single project would do.

Step 2

A short written proposal.

Scope, the days each month, the monthly retainer, software costs, who owns the accounts and what support is included.

Step 3

We start.

On a date that suits your team, with a named owner on your side from day one.

Many engagements start with an opportunity review or a first project, then move to a retainer once there's something worth running. That isn't required.

It's a monthly retainer sized to the days you need, and each one is quoted in writing before anything starts. The term and notice period are set out in the proposal.

How we work

Questions

What is a fractional Head of AI?

A senior person who owns AI for your company for a set number of days a month: priorities, tools and suppliers, delivery, governance and training. You get the leadership without a full-time hire. Some call it a fractional Chief AI Officer. With me, it also includes the hands-on builds.

What does a fractional Head of AI do each month?

A monthly review of priorities with you, the current project moving forward one at a time, tool and supplier decisions, training, and a short written update on what's in use and what's next. The number of days is set for the engagement and agreed in writing.

How is it different from an AI consultant or an agency?

A consultant advises. An agency builds what you specify. A fractional Head of AI owns the outcome over time. I also build, directing AI to do the technical work, so there's no hand-off between the plan and the delivery. You deal with one person throughout.

Do you get AI into production, or only advise?

I build. Both case studies on this site were built by me directing AI: a live yacht brokerage website and portal, and a healthcare platform that is my own venture, still in development. On the healthcare platform I lead the product and direct the build, with a licensed pharmacist co-founder.

How do you make sure our team can run it without you?

Every project has a named owner in your team, written instructions and handover training. The aim is that your people run what we build. I also agree with you who maintains each tool, so every tool has someone looking after it.

How much does a fractional Head of AI cost?

It's a monthly retainer sized to the days you need, quoted in writing before anything starts. There's no hourly billing. Larger builds are quoted in writing as fixed-fee phases, and the term and notice period are set out in the proposal.

Do we need a Head of AI at all?

If AI ideas, tools and suppliers are piling up and nobody owns them, probably yes, at least part time. If you have one clear task, start with a first project instead. I'll tell you which one fits on the first call.

Where are you based?

In Tallinn, Estonia. I work with companies across Europe, in English. The work is mostly remote, from Tallinn, and any on-site visits are agreed in the proposal. The first call is free and takes 15 minutes.

Need someone to own AI and get it built? Book a 15-minute call. If a single project would do, I'll say so.
